Nikkiso to Supply LNG Regas Systems for Bahamas Power Project
Nikkiso will supply LNG regasification systems and engineering services for a Shell-backed power project in Nassau, Bahamas, replacing diesel with natural gas to support lower-carbon generation at Clifton Pier.
(P&GJ) — Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group has been awarded a contract to provide LNG regasification systems and engineering services for the New Providence Gas Project in Nassau, Bahamas.
The project, a joint venture between Shell and a subsidiary of FOCOL Holdings Limited, will include an LNG receiving terminal to support additional power generation at Clifton Pier. The facility will use natural gas to fuel new and retrofitted turbines that previously ran on diesel.
Nikkiso will supply a packaged regasification system with a capacity of 55 million standard cubic feet per day. The system includes high-pressure submerged centrifugal pumps, a gas-fired water bath vaporizer, power distribution and control systems, vacuum-jacketed insulated pipeline, and other ancillary equipment. The company will also provide engineering services.
Adrian Ridge, president and CEO of Nikkiso CE&IG Group, said:
“Nikkiso's LNG-to-power solution is preferred by our customers because we can engineer, manufacture, install and service critical equipment which helps provide power via natural gas in some of the world's most remote locations. We've proven time and again that we are a reliable partner, supporting customers with quick delivery and installation for projects of any scale. This project is a good insight into how important cryogenic equipment is for companies like NPG looking to expand lower-carbon power generation.”
The modular design of the regasification system is expected to reduce integration time and costs, supporting the Bahamas’ shift to lower-carbon energy infrastructure.
