Texas Coastal Residents Raise Questions on Proposed DeLa Express Gas Pipeline
Community groups in Beaumont are educating residents about the proposed DeLa Express Pipeline, which would carry 2 Bcf/d of gas from West Texas to Louisiana and cross Jefferson County.
(P&GJ) — Community groups in Beaumont, Texas, are rallying to inform residents about the proposed DeLa Express Pipeline, which could cross Jefferson County and affect local landowners, according to 12NewsNow.
The project, developed by Houston-based Moss Lake Partners, would transport up to 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from West Texas to a liquefied natural gas facility in southwest Louisiana. The planned route includes segments through Jefferson County, prompting property rights discussions and community outreach efforts.
At a recent meeting organized by the Port Arthur Community Action Network and the Property Rights and Pipeline Center, residents were briefed on their legal rights regarding eminent domain and negotiation with pipeline developers. “This meeting is to better inform the public, as well as property owners along the pipeline, of what their rights are,” said John Beard of the Port Arthur Community Action Network, via 12NewsNow.
Pipeline developers are currently contacting affected landowners, according to filings with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Moss Lake Partners has not publicly commented on the project.
Jefferson County already hosts extensive energy infrastructure, with pipelines transporting crude oil and chemicals. Nationally, there are about 2.5 million miles of natural gas pipelines across the U.S., according to the American Gas Association.
