Deutsche ReGas Awards Mukran LNG Terminal Capacity to Boost German, European Supply Security

The move strengthens Germany’s gas supply network as Europe continues to replace Russian pipeline imports with LNG.

(Reuters) — On Oct. 22, Deutsche ReGas said it had auctioned slots to deliver liquefied natural gas at the north German port of Mukran, contributing to gas supplies for winter and beyond.

ReGas, a private developer and operator of energy infrastructure, held the auction on Oct. 21 for deliveries into the Deutsche Ostsee terminal at Mukran, on Germany's Ruegen island in the Baltic Sea.

"All delivery slots for LNG landing in Mukran during the heating season that has just begun until next spring, as well as 80% of the capacities for the entire year 2026, have been allocated," the company said in reply to an enquiry by Reuters.

"This means that deliveries via the German Baltic Sea energy terminal will continue to make a significant contribution to security of supply in Germany and Europe in the coming year," it said.

On Sept. 19, ReGas had announced the auction for 12 unloading and regasification slots that would be spread evenly through 2026.

Europe's pipeline gas imports from Russia have fallen sharply since 2022, and the European Union has decided to end its reliance on Russian fossil fuels by 2027, resulting in a growing role for seaborne LNG.

Gas from Mukran can be fed into German and Czech gas grids.
