$1.2 Billion Gas-Fired Power Plant Breaks Ground in West Virginia
Kindle Energy has begun construction on a $1.2 billion, 600-MW natural gas power plant in West Virginia, aimed at supporting rising electricity demand across the PJM region.
(P&GJ) — Kindle Energy has started construction on a $1.2 billion natural gas-fired power plant in West Virginia, adding new generation capacity to meet rising electricity demand in the PJM region.
The Wolf Summit facility, located in Harrison County, will be a 600-megawatt combined-cycle gas turbine plant designed to provide baseload power to Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC), which serves customers across Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
The project is fully contracted and backed by funds affiliated with Blackstone Energy Transition Partners. Once completed, it will supply power within the same transmission zone as ODEC’s load, helping reduce congestion risks and improve reliability.
Kindle Energy CEO Lee Davis said the project represents a key step in expanding reliable generation capacity in the region.
“Wolf Summit will deliver efficient, reliable power to meet growing demand,” Davis said.
Blackstone executives said the development reflects continued investment in dispatchable generation as electricity demand increases.
“We are focused on delivering new, efficient power generation to support rising demand,” company representatives said.
The plant is expected to create about 500 construction jobs and support additional economic activity in the area.
The project marks a rare new-build combined-cycle facility in West Virginia and comes as grid operators across the PJM market call for additional generation capacity to maintain system reliability.
