Commonwealth LNG Signs 20-Year Supply Deal with Mercuria for Cameron Export Plant
Commonwealth LNG has signed 20-year LNG sales and gas supply agreements with Mercuria, advancing commercial support for its planned LNG export terminal near Cameron, Louisiana.
(P&GJ) — Commonwealth LNG has signed long-term LNG sales and natural gas supply agreements with Mercuria that would support exports from its planned liquefied natural gas terminal near Cameron, Louisiana.
Under the agreements, Commonwealth will supply 1 million tonnes per annum of LNG for 20 years to Mercuria Energy Trading S.A. from the Cameron export facility, while Mercuria Americas will provide a corresponding volume of natural gas under a gas supply agreement. The arrangements remain subject to customary conditions, including a final investment decision on the project.
“These agreements mark a significant strategic partnership and market expansion,” said Caturus CEO David Lawler. “Mercuria’s global reach can help Commonwealth distribute our LNG to a broader international community, while Mercuria gains a competitive edge with additional supply sources.”
Brian Falik, president of Mercuria Americas, said the deal aligns with the trader’s long-term supply strategy.
“This agreement reflects Mercuria’s commitment to securing long-term, reliable LNG supply from high-quality U.S. projects,” Falik said. “Commonwealth LNG’s integrated approach, strong resource backing and focus on responsible, low-emission production align well with our strategy to serve global customers with dependable and competitively priced energy. We are pleased to partner with Commonwealth and Caturus as they advance a project that will play an important role in meeting growing international demand for LNG.”
With the Mercuria agreement, Commonwealth said it has now secured binding long-term offtake commitments covering 7 million tonnes per annum of its 9.5 MMtpy permitted capacity, including agreements with Glencore, JERA, PETRONAS and EQT. Negotiations are ongoing for the remaining capacity.
Commonwealth LNG is part of the Caturus platform, formed last year following the rebranding of Kimmeridge’s upstream and LNG businesses into a single integrated natural gas and LNG company.
