Ignitis Expands Long-Term Capacity at Klaipėda LNG Terminal

Ignitis has increased its long-term regasification capacity at Lithuania's Klaipėda LNG terminal to 6 TWh annually through 2044, expanding LNG supply flexibility and strengthening Baltic energy security.

(P&GJ) — Lithuania's Ignitis has secured an additional 2 TWh of annual regasification capacity at the Klaipėda LNG terminal, increasing its long-term reserved capacity to 6 TWh per year for the 2033–2044 period.

The additional capacity was awarded through a secondary market allocation conducted by terminal operator KN Energies under the terminal's long-term capacity allocation process.

The new allocation follows Ignitis' reservation of 4 TWh of annual regasification capacity announced in June, bringing the company's total long-term capacity at the terminal to 6 TWh annually through 2044.

Ignitis said the additional capacity will provide greater flexibility in planning natural gas supplies while supporting diversification of supply sources across Lithuania and the Baltic region.

"Long-term access to the terminal provides greater flexibility in planning gas supplies, enables the diversification of supply sources and strengthens energy resilience in Lithuania and the Baltic region," the company said.

The Klaipėda LNG terminal plays a key role in supplying Lithuania and neighboring Baltic markets with imported liquefied natural gas, reducing reliance on pipeline gas and strengthening regional energy security.
