Plastics Pipe Institute Backs Renewal of USMCA Trade Deal

The Plastics Pipe Institute is urging the U.S., Canada and Mexico to renew the USMCA trade agreement, warning that uncertainty could disrupt manufacturing investment and infrastructure growth.

(P&GJ) — The Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) is urging the United States, Mexico and Canada to renew the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) as the trade pact approaches a mandatory joint review next year.

The organization said the agreement continues to provide stability for manufacturers operating across North America by supporting supply chain reliability, investment planning and long-term infrastructure development.

The USMCA, which replaced NAFTA in 2020, is scheduled to remain in effect until 2036 unless the three countries fail to agree on an extension during the upcoming review process. A July 1, 2026 review deadline will determine whether the agreement is renewed for another 16 years or enters annual review periods.

PPI submitted comments to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative supporting renewal of the agreement, arguing that the framework has helped manufacturers expand operations and make long-term capital investments across the region.

David Fink, president of PPI, said the agreement has provided the consistency manufacturers need to invest and grow while supporting broader North American competitiveness.

The organization also emphasized the importance of maintaining stable trade conditions for infrastructure-related industries tied to manufacturing, construction materials and industrial supply chains.

PPI represents North American plastic pipe manufacturers and supports policies tied to infrastructure investment, trade stability and supply chain resilience.
