New Fortress Energy Secures 7-Year Puerto Rico Gas Supply Agreement

New Fortress Energy has secured final approval for a 7-year, 75-TBtu natural gas supply deal with Puerto Rico’s government, supporting the island’s power grid reliability and long-term energy transition goals.

NEW YORK (P&GJ) — New Fortress Energy Inc. has received final approval from Puerto Rico’s Financial Oversight and Management Board for a 7-year Gas Supply Agreement, securing delivery of about 75 trillion British thermal units (TBtu) of natural gas to support the island’s energy transition, the company said.

Under the agreement, New Fortress Energy (NFE) will supply lower-emission natural gas to bolster grid reliability and cleaner power generation across Puerto Rico. The contract builds on NFE’s existing infrastructure and operations on the island.

“This long-term partnership between Puerto Rico and NFE will greatly benefit the island,” said Wes Edens, Chairman and CEO of New Fortress Energy. “We greatly appreciate Governor González-Colón’s leadership and support during this process. Securing seven years of reliable gas supply is a major step forward for the island’s energy transition.”

The agreement represents another milestone in Puerto Rico’s efforts to modernize its energy mix and enhance grid resilience, as the territory continues to rely on imported natural gas to meet growing electricity demand.
