Feds Fast-Track Utah Crude Transport Project with 14-Day Review

BLM has cleared the Wildcat Loadout Facility expansion in Utah after an expedited 14-day review, paving the way for higher crude-by-rail capacity in the Uinta Basin.

(P&GJ) — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has approved Coal Energy Group 2 LLC’s plan to expand the Wildcat Loadout Facility after an accelerated 14-day environmental review prompted by the national energy emergency declared by President Donald J. Trump.

The 270-acre site, which transfers Uinta Basin crude oil from tanker trucks to rail cars, will be reconfigured to add new unloading areas, a tank farm, loading systems, and related equipment, increasing its capacity to transload oil.

“Responsible energy development plays a key role in supporting local communities and national priorities,” said BLM Green River District Manager Elijah Waters. “This project reflects our commitment to advancing critical infrastructure while ensuring careful stewardship of Utah’s public lands.”

The BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land—plus 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate—across the United States. Its duties include permitting traditional energy projects and overseeing mineral extraction needed for industries such as data centers and defense.

More details on the decision are posted in the BLM’s National NEPA Register. Project questions can be directed to BLM project manager Kyle Beagley at kbeagley@blm.gov.
