U.S.-Flagged LNG Carrier Delivers 500 Million Gallons to Puerto Rico in First Year

Crowley’s LNG carrier American Energy delivered more than 500 million gallons to Puerto Rico in its first year, supporting power generation and strengthening fuel supply logistics on the island.

(P&GJ) — A U.S.-flagged LNG carrier has delivered more than 500 million gallons of liquefied natural gas to Puerto Rico during its first year of operation, supporting power generation and energy reliability on the island.

Crowley LNG carrier, American Energy, docked at EcoElectrica facility in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico.

The vessel, American Energy, supplies LNG to the EcoEléctrica facility in Peñuelas under a long-term arrangement, providing fuel for electricity generation and helping offset higher-emissions diesel use. The delivered volumes represent approximately 2 million cubic meters of LNG.

The carrier has operated continuously since entering service in March 2025, marking the first dedicated U.S.-flagged LNG transport supporting Puerto Rico’s energy system. The operation is part of broader efforts to strengthen fuel supply logistics and infrastructure resilience across the island.

In addition to LNG transport, the service supports U.S. maritime employment, with a workforce of approximately 90 mariners during its first year.
