ORLEN Reserves Capacity at Poland's Planned FSRU 2 LNG Terminal

ORLEN has reserved regasification capacity at Poland's planned FSRU 2 terminal in Gdańsk, expanding its LNG import capabilities and supporting the development of the Baltic Eagle Gas Hub.

(P&GJ) — ORLEN has secured regasification capacity at the planned FSRU 2 terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk, a move that will expand the company's liquefied natural gas (LNG) import capabilities and support development of its Baltic Eagle Gas Hub strategy.

The reservation covers 12 LNG cargo slots annually between 2030 and 2039, representing the ability to import approximately 1.25 billion cubic meters (Bcm) of natural gas each year. Once FSRU 2 enters service, ORLEN said its combined LNG import capacity across the Świnoujście terminal, the planned FSRU 1 and FSRU 2 terminals in Gdańsk, and capacity reserved at Lithuania's Klaipėda LNG terminal will exceed 16 bcm annually.

The expanded import portfolio is intended to strengthen Poland's energy security while increasing supply flexibility across Central and Eastern Europe. ORLEN said gas imported through its LNG infrastructure can also be delivered to neighboring markets, including Ukraine and Slovakia, through existing cross-border interconnections.

"The energy of tomorrow is about independence and security of supply," ORLEN CEO Ireneusz Fąfara said.

"Securing capacity at FSRU 2 is another step in the development of the Baltic Eagle Gas Hub, designed to ensure the security of gas supply not only for Poland, but for the entire region."

The reservation also builds on ORLEN's growing LNG business. The company currently holds the full regasification capacity at the Świnoujście LNG terminal, which was recently expanded to 8.3 Bcm per year, and has reserved the full 6.1 Bcm annual capacity of the planned FSRU 1 terminal in Gdańsk. ORLEN also has access to LNG import capacity in Klaipėda, Lithuania, and Montoir, France, supported by its own LNG carrier fleet.

ORLEN said it expects to receive its 450th LNG cargo at the Świnoujście terminal next week. Since LNG imports began, the company has imported more than 46 Bcm of natural gas through the facility.
