Pennsylvania Gas Main Replacement Project Targets Aging Infrastructure
Columbia Gas is replacing aging natural gas infrastructure in Hanover, Pennsylvania, with pipeline and service line upgrades planned through the end of 2026.
(P&GJ) — Columbia Gas is preparing to begin a natural gas infrastructure replacement project in Hanover and nearby Penn Township, Pennsylvania, that will modernize portions of its distribution system and upgrade customer connections, according to FOX43. The work is expected to start this month in the vicinity of the Hanover Arboretum and continue through the end of the year.
The project includes replacing roughly 1,140 feet of natural gas main and upgrading service lines serving approximately 55 customers. Columbia Gas also plans to relocate one customer's meter as part of the system improvements.
Kinsley Construction will perform the work on behalf of Columbia Gas. As reported by FOX43, the utility said the project is intended to improve the long-term safety and reliability of its natural gas network while replacing aging infrastructure. The company also said affected roads, sidewalks and customer properties will be restored following construction, subject to local municipal and PennDOT standards.
Project timing could be affected by weather conditions or unexpected underground construction challenges, according to FOX43. Once complete, the upgrades will be part of Columbia Gas' broader effort to modernize its distribution system across Pennsylvania.
