Pipeline Leak Near Schwedt Refinery Triggers Oil Spill in Northeastern Germany

Emergency crews responded to a major oil spill along the Rostock–Schwedt pipeline in northeastern Germany after an accident disrupted crude flow to the PCK refinery. Officials said no injuries occurred and refinery operations remain unaffected.

(Reuters) — A major oil spill has been reported in the Uckermark region of northeastern Germany after an accident at a pipeline feeding the PCK Schwedt refinery, with emergency services deployed but no reports of injuries or any impact on refinery operations.

Large quantities of oil were leaking from the pipeline, a spokesperson for the PCK refinery told public broadcaster rbb without providing an immediate estimate of the volume or cause of the incident.

The refinery did not respond immediately to a Reuters request for further detail and the Integrated Regional Control Centre NorthEast, in charge of emergencies in the region, declined to comment.

The pipeline runs from the Baltic Sea port of Rostock to the PCK refinery, a key fuel supplier for the Berlin-Brandenburg region.
