H250 M40 Flowmeter Earns SIL 2 Certification for 4–20 mA Output

The H250 M40 variable area flowmeter has received SIL 2 certification for its limit switches and, for the first time, its 4–20 mA analogue output, strengthening its functional safety profile for process industry applications.

(P&GJ) — The H250 M40 variable area flowmeter has received new SIL 2 certifications, including approval for its 4–20 mA analogue output.

Certification body exida awarded SIL 2 status to both the device’s limit switches and its analogue output. The updated certification replaces the previous manufacturer’s declaration, which rated the limit switches at SIL 2 and the 4–20 mA output at SIL 1.

The evaluation included hardware random failure rates determined through FMEDA analysis and confirmed with field data. It also assessed systematic capability of the device’s software and hardware in accordance with IEC 61508:2010 Parts 1–3.

The H250 M40 is used in process industry and OEM applications for measuring liquids and gases. The device supports modular electronics that can be added or replaced without interrupting operations, enabling configurations ranging from basic analogue measurement to digital fieldbus integration.

The all-metal flowmeter is designed for high-pressure and high-temperature environments, rated up to 1,000 barg (14,500 psig) and temperatures from –196 °C to +400 °C (–320 °F to +752 °F). It can be installed in horizontal or vertical downflow lines up to DN150 (6 in.) and is available in hygienic configurations.

Additional diagnostics functions, including detection of float blockages and pulsating flow conditions, are designed to support operational safety and maintenance planning.
