Aramco, Emerson Develop Real-Time Corrosion Monitoring Technology

Aramco and Emerson are collaborating on new digital corrosion monitoring technologies designed to improve asset integrity, reduce maintenance risks and provide operators with real-time visibility into infrastructure conditions.

(P&GJ) — Aramco and Emerson have signed a research and development agreement to jointly develop digital corrosion monitoring technologies aimed at improving asset integrity, operational reliability and maintenance planning across energy infrastructure.

The collaboration will combine Aramco's operational expertise with Emerson's corrosion monitoring technologies, including ultrasonic wall-thickness measurement systems, wireless communications and real-time data analytics. The companies said the goal is to improve how corrosion is monitored and managed across industrial facilities.

Corrosion monitoring remains a critical issue for pipeline operators and energy companies because it can affect safety, reliability and equipment performance. Continuous monitoring systems are increasingly being adopted to reduce reliance on manual inspections and provide operators with real-time information about asset conditions.

Under the agreement, Emerson will support the development of corrosion management tools capable of continuously collecting and analyzing data from operating facilities. The companies said the technology is intended to provide earlier visibility into corrosion risks and support more informed maintenance decisions.

"Emerson's technology portfolio positions us to help develop corrosion monitoring solutions that are scalable and tailored to Aramco's operations," Ram Krishnan, Emerson's chief operating officer, said in a statement. "We believe the technologies developed through this collaboration could have applications across the broader energy industry."

The companies did not disclose financial terms or a timeline for the development program.
