Emerson, SiMa.ai Target Industrial Edge AI for Energy Operations

Emerson and SiMa.ai are partnering to bring AI-powered edge computing to industrial operations, targeting applications including leak detection, predictive maintenance and remote energy infrastructure monitoring.

(P&GJ) — Emerson is partnering with SiMa.ai to integrate artificial intelligence capabilities into industrial edge computing systems designed for energy, manufacturing and remote industrial operations.

The companies said the collaboration will combine Emerson’s industrial PCs with SiMa.ai’s machine learning chip technology to support real-time analysis and automation directly at industrial sites, including upstream oil and gas operations and other remote infrastructure environments. The systems are designed to process data locally rather than relying on cloud-based computing.

According to the companies, the technology is intended to support applications including gas leak detection, equipment monitoring, predictive maintenance and process optimization. Emerson said the systems are engineered for harsh operating environments and can function in remote or air-gapped facilities where connectivity may be limited.

SiMa.ai CEO Krishna Rangasayee said edge-based AI can allow operators to move beyond monitoring systems and toward more automated operational responses. Emerson Chief Operating Officer Ram Krishnan said industrial companies increasingly need AI tools that can operate with the reliability and security required in critical infrastructure environments.

The companies said the systems are aimed at industries including oil and gas, power, water, mining and manufacturing. Emerson added that the AI-enabled industrial PCs are designed to support high-performance computing workloads while operating in extreme temperatures and rugged field conditions.
